Outside the Current documents the last water taxis in Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter.

This projects sheds light on the daily work of a unique group of boats, and their captains, in one of Hong Kong’s most historic Typhoon Shelters.

Jeremiah Palmerston captures the essence of Hong Kong’s original harbor masters. Before the development of high rises, and the entry of modern megalithic ships, they piloted these waters. This photographic series captures the final generation of these harbor masters. Each photo tells a vivid story, paying tribute to all those who piloted and rode these boats in 2020 and the decades prior.
